FG To Rehabilitate NYSC FCT Camp Facilities

The FCT Minister, Malam Muhammad Bello, has
approved the rehabilitation of some of the facilities
at the FCT National Youth Service Corps (NYSC)
Orientation Camp, Kubwa. Mr Abdulrazak Salawu, the FCT Coordinator,
confirmed this in an interview with the Newsmen in
Abuja on Thursday. Salawu listed some of the structures to include the
camp hall and some hostels, adding that other
structures will be affected by the development as
the rains was already causing damage to facilities at
the camp. The coordinator said the rehabilitation was timely
and necessary with the coming of the rains as
even the back gate of the camp was pulled down
during one of the recent heavy storms. He said the rehabilitation would also help to
provide a more conducive environment for corps
members for the next orientation course scheduled
for May 2017. “The proposed permanent site for the NYSC FCT
Camp is in Kwali. “Construction of the camp has not yet commenced
as the Ministry of Youths and Sports has just
produced the building design. “We are still a long way from developing the land;
personally I do not see that site being completed
before the next five years because they have not
started any form of construction there and you
know it is a very big project that will take some
time. “As we keep using the camp in Kubwa, we need to
ensure that the structures are in good condition at
all times and so the FCT minister has approved the
renovation of the camp. “The hall is going to be expanded. The one in use
now can only take up to 700 corps members and
in every set we have at least 3,000 corps members. “Some of these corps members have had to sit
outside during lectures and other indoor
activities,” Salawu said. He said that the minister has also approved the
renovation of some of the hostels that were in bad
condition, saying that work will commence next
week.
