Buhari’s Health: No Cause For Alarm – Adesina

Levinus Nwabughiogu ABUJA-The Presidency last night said that there is no cause for alarm on the state of health of President Muhammadu Buhari. The presidency which spoke through the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina on his tweeter handle said that the rumour mill is on overdrive. “Why do the heathens rage, and the people imagine vain thing? The rumour mill on overdrive is pure fiction. No cause for alarm on PMB”, Adesina wrote. It will be recalled that speculation had been rife that the President who is on a medical vacation in London had died.

Ex-Banker Allegedly Defrauds 26 People Of N1.5bn

LAGOS—An Igbosere magistrate’s court in Lagos, yesterday, granted bail in the sum of N10 million to an ex-banker, Adebayo Ogunusi, 41, charged for swindling 26 people to the tune of N1.5 billion. The magistrate, Mrs F. O. Botoku, admitted Ogunusi to bail in the said sum with two sureties in like sum. Magistrate Botoku ordered that the accused should submit his travelling passport to the court and that the sureties must reside in Lagos State. The accused, whose address was not given, is standing trial on a 26-count charge bordering on fraud. The prosecutor, Sergeant Innocent Odugbo, told the court that the accused committed the offences between May and August 2016 in Lagos. According to the prosecutor, Ogunusi obtained a total of N1.5 billion from 26 different people under the guise of giving them the dollar equivalent of the money. The prosecutor said that the accused promised to introduce the complainants to forex business, but swindled them. Odugbu said that the accused knew that the representation he made was false. He informed the court that the offences contravened Section 312 (1) (a) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011. When the charge was read, Ogunusi pleaded not guilty and the case was adjourned till February 23 and 24 for trial. It was gathered that the accused was, sometime in November 2016, also arraigned for similar offences and was granted the same bail conditions.

How Silicon Valley reacted to the Trump inauguration

America has a new a president in DoContiSilicon Valley’s reaction to the inauguration of the country’s 45th president was unsurprisingly swift. Thoughts on social media, particularly Twitter (TWTR), were far from positive, with members of the tech community expressing disdain for Trump overall, as well as displeasure with specific moments from the inauguration. Michael Solana, vice president at Founders Fund, the San Francisco-based venture capital firm co-founded by billionaire investor and Trump transition team member Peter Thiel, sent out a Tweet mocking Trump’s negative tone about the state of the nation. Meanwhile, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s former speechwriter, Dex Torricke-Barton, seemed less than optimistic that Trump would improve the state of the country. Barton made something of a splash in the tech industry last November when he quit his job as head of communications at Elon Musk’s SpaceX to focus on grassroots work to combat the rise of Trump. For his part, Sam Altman, president of the respected startup incubator YCombinator, went a step further than sending out a critical tweet. The 31-year-old high-profile member of the technorati announced via Twitter he had spent the last several weeks building Track Trump, a website that promises to track whether Trump fulfills his stated goals for his first 100 days in office.

‘Map updates could have averted bombing error’

The accidental bombing of an Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp in Rann, Borno State by the Nigerian Air Force last Tuesday could have been averted, if the Federal Government consistently updates the country’s map. In a press statement issued in Lagos at the weekend, President of the Nigerian Institute of Surveyors (NIS), Akin Oyegbola, said the Federal Government as a matter of urgency needs to earmark enough funds for survey and mapping in the budget so as to check future reoccurrence. “If the Information was true, it is safe to say that the map used for the mission could have been better updated”. He explained that, “The present digital method of processing, managing, storing and presenting geo-spatial information would have made possible mapping of the IDP Camps, as they were being sited. If the IDP Camps have been mapped, the position of one of them would not have been mistaken for that of Boko Haram”.

Shiites accuses President Buhari of dictatorship tendencies

Calls For El-Zakzaky, Wife’s Release After 45-Day Ultimatum By Court Members of the Islamic Movement Nigeria (IMN), otherwise known as Shiites, yesterday, called for the release of their leader, Sheikh Ibraheem El-Zakzaky and his wife from detention in line with the ruling of the Federal High Court, Abuja. Besides, the group reacted to claims by government, necessitating El-Zakzaky’s continuous detention in the custody of the Directorate of State Security (DSS), while calling on President Buhari to respect rule of law and fundamental rights of Nigerians, as directed by the court. Spokesman of the Shiites, Mallam Ibrahim Musa, faulted claims by the Presidency, as reported in the media, “that the Presidency knew next to nothing about the illegal detention of our leader, Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky and his wife. “The report has it that the government tendered a lame excuse as to why it refused to obey an order of the Federal high court to release Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky and his wife, citing what it termed public interest and security concerns. Perhaps more baffling is the declaration by the Presidency that the Sheikh’s wife, Malama Zeenat, is not under detention, but is merely taking care of her husband. “This ridiculous explanation is clearly an afterthought. Instead of the Presidency to tell the world why it is defying court orders with impunity, it continues to wobble and quibble, while defying the rule of law. “The same can be said about the case of Sheikh. The Presidency is simply shifting the goal post. What security concerns or public interest are they talking about? Why is it taking them over a year to realise this, and only after a competent court had ruled that their detention was illegal, unconstitutional and that he should be released unconditionally?”

Again, Atiku backs devolution of power

Sultan Advises Against Inciting Comments Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has again canvassed the need for devolution of powers to the 36 component states of the federation. Atiku, a chieftain of the All Progressive Congress (APC), who was the chief presenter at the launch of the book, “Gwandu Emirate: The Domain of Abdullahi Fodio, since 1805,” yesterday in Birnin Kebbi, wondered why a section of Nigerians are uncomfortable with the devolution of power, which was practiced in the Sokoto Caliphate in the 19th Century. He maintained that the measure, which would entail the Federal Government devolving some of its powers domiciled in the Exclusive Legislative List in the constitution, would engender good governance and development in the polity. Describing the event as significant and special in many respects, Abubakar remarked that there was much to be learnt in this regard from the way and manner Othman Dan Fodio devolved power to his younger brother, Abdullahi Fodio, who effectively administered the Gwandu Emirate and beyond in the 19th Century. Also speaking at the event, Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ ad Abubakar, advised religious leaders to eschew inciting statements capable of igniting trouble among Nigerians. The monarch who said inflamatory comments would further divide and polarise the nation, pointed out that every religion preaches peace, unity and solidarity among its faithful. The sultan condemned insurgent activities pervading the northeastern part of the country, and commended President Muhammadu Buhari for his efforts in curtailing the menace.

Presidency denies Buhari death rumour

President Muhammadu Buhari is well and alive, the presidency said late on Saturday after a news website published a story that the Nigerian leader has passed away in London. Metro-uk.com, which can be confused for the more recognised metro.co.uk, ascribed the source of its story to unnamed officials of the Nigerian High Commission in London and a presidential aide who claimed Buhari died of an “unknown disease”. But the presidency insisted all is well with the 74-year old Nigerian leader. “Best wishes to all who wish PMB well. As for those who carry evil rumours, may they receive grace to repent,” tweeted Femi Adesina, Buhari’s media adviser. “He is alive and well! President Buhari is not magical. He cannot be holidaying in the UK and be in Germany, dead or alive at the same time,” said another presidential spokesman, Garba Shehu.

/breaking-jammeh-writes-acceptance-speech-cede-power-new-gambian-president-barrow/

By Anthony Ogbonna Embattled Gambian out-gone President,Yahaya Jammeh is reportedly, currently writing an acceptance speech wherein he would agree to cede power and officially recognize Adama Barrow as his successor. President Barrow, has confirmed this. On his twitter handle, he twitted, “I would like to inform you that Yahya Jammeh has agreed to step down. He is scheduled to depart Gambia today. #NewGambia.” A France24 journalist in The Gambia, Nicolas Germain, also confirmed this in a tweet. According to him, Jammeh is “currently writing the statement where he accepts to leave, in the presence of Guinean officials.” Recall that earlier today, Jammeh had asked a shift in deadline of midday to vacate office as ECOWAS soldiers closed in on him. Government sources had said that the request was made when the leaders of Guinea and Mauritania arrived in the capital, Banjul, in a last-ditch diplomatic effort to get him to cede power. Yahya Jammeh The twitter handle of Charles Onyango-Obbot ‏@cobbo3, a Ugandan journalist and author had equally reported that “ Jammeh asks for deadline extension – from midday (local time) to 4pm!” “He’s not done packing #Gambia.” Meanwhile, after the inauguration of Adama Barrow, which held on Thursday, January 19, 2017, at the Gambian Embassy in Senegal, the presidential portrait of Yahya Jammeh was replaced with that of the internationally recognised President, Adama Barrow. The event happened at the UN Gambia’s mission in the United State. U.N replaces Jammeh’s portrait with Barrow’s Recall also that a regional military force that crossed the border in support of his democratically elected successor, Adama Barrow, was awaiting orders on Friday. The West African troops entered the Gambia on Thursday night, hours after Barrow was forced to hold his inauguration as president in Dakar, the capital of Senegal. De Souza said the west African force, which includes tanks, has so far met no resistance. Dozens of vultures spread their wings on the large ground outside State House, and a lone cyclist, perhaps one of the few remaining tourists in the country, made the most of the empty roads. The country’s chief of defence staff, Ousman Badjie, was seen speeding in the direction of Banjul. He has switched allegiance several times over the past month, and was celebrating with Barrow supporters in the streets last night.

Your Land Or Your Blood.

[5/5, 9:11 PM] ‪+234 802 948 1691‬: Your Land Or Your Blood. By Adamu Mohammed. Ever since President Muhammadu Buhari took over the mantle of leadership of this great country Nigeria, we(Hausa-Fulanis) have come under severe media attack from enemies of progress. Just because they are educated than us, they stereotype us with negativity. Just because they own and control the media, they use the media against us. But let me make something clear to you stupid fellows hating us, whether you love us or hate us, it doesn't change anything. We are who we are and we will continue to remain like that. We hate you even more and we can never love you because you are all infidels. I pity those of you who keep deluding yourselves that we can love and trust you simply because you worked against your people to our own advantage, never! I heard that the stupid Governor of Oyo State, Ajimobi said that they won't accept the proposed Grazing Bill. But my message to the filthy Yoruba pig is that, if you don't want to give us your cursed land, we will rear our cattle not only on your farmlands but in your churches. And if you try to stop us, we would killed your chicken hearted men like rabbits then turn your mothers, wives, sisters and daughters to our sex slaves like we have always done. It is either you give the whole of South to us to use as grazing reserve or we soak it with your blood. And what you would do like you always do is noise on Facebook and Twitter. you cannot be united against us because there would always be the likes of Tinubu, Amaechi and Okorocha in your midst who will divide you for selfishness and love of money. Such treacherous characters can't survive in our midst because we burn them and their families. I so much detest Southern Christians because they are the problem of this country. If I have my way, there won't be any functional church in this country, especially in the North. That's why I am so much happy with Governor El-rufai who is living up to the expectations of Allah in Kaduna State. We are not really pleased with President Muhammadu Buhari who is too slow to implement everything we asked him to implement in this country for us, he has not even done 20% of the Northern/Islam agenda, what he is waiting for I don't know. We will make life unbearable for Igbos like they are in Hell, and yet we won't let them have their useless Biafra because the whole of South is a conquered territory. We can never see Yorubas as allies no matter how hard they try to please or serve us because they are born traitors and infidels. Those slaves in the Middle Belt would continue to be willing tools in our hands, and the day they attempt to raise their heads, we will cut off their heads like weeds. I lack words to tell the inconsequential and always crying Niger Delta because what we are waiting for is for President Buhari to declare state of emergency in Rivers, Bayelsa and Delta, then we will show them how to use power. We are at war with you people but we won't allow the country to breakup because, natural resources found in any part of the country is our heritage and birth right. We will continue killing you in large numbers until you are truly submissive to us as your slave masters. We won't stop killing you until we fully takeover your land as a conquered territory. This is not the time to mince words, this is not the time to sugarcoat things, and this is not the time to be economical with the truth, this is nothing but the truth, ignore it at your own peril. [5/5, 9:16 PM] ‪+234 802 948 1691‬: GRAZING RESERVE BILL. Please continue to pass this leaked information until every Yoruba, Igbo, all tribes and all Christian parts of Nigeria gets alerted. This was planned many years by Fulanis as a strategic way to Islamization of Nigeria. That was why Buhari continued running for presidency even at his old age because they knew he is the most possible mean to achieve their goal. In 1804 - 1808. Fulanis came in from Guinea to the Northern part of Nigeria, led by Usman Dan fodio .He lead in jihad against the Hausa kingdoms of the northern Nigeria. The forces of Usman dan Fodio slowly took over more and more of the Hausa kingdoms through war. By 1810, Fulanis had already conquered all hausas. They formed boko haram sect solely for the process, waiting for Buhari or any of their Fulani brother to come in power but Unfortunately, Goodluck Jonathan came into power and they became annoyed. They started their violence to distract him and whether it was Yoruba or Igbo that was on the seat during GEJ'S regime. The same thing could've still happened about Boko haram. Now their dream has been achieved having their brother on top. Here is their plan. They started herdsmen war believing that they have the chance to control all parts of the country since they are in power and forces. If GRAZING RESERVE BILL is passed and achieved, It means that Fulanis will have a place mapped out for them in all 36 states of Nigeria. The next thing is that, they will start bringing in their wives and children to increase their population. With time, they will have their Emir installed in every 36 states which will eventually take part in every leadership community gatherings. They will eat into every community like worms and the place given to them can never be taken away from them again since it has been passed. Their sect will be ready to strike in every state and community with no hiding place for anyone since they have known every corners of our community. It is then that we will beg them to stop killing us for we are ready to become Muslims in order to live. This is the only time we have to reject this because tomorrow might be late for us to act. ‪#SAYNOTOGRAZINGRESERVEBILL‬# ‪#SAYNOTOISLAMIZATIONOFNIGERIA‬# Pass this to everyone in your contact,Yoruba, igbos ,others and all Christian alike. Nigeria novelist was banned for speaking her mother tongue

Nigerian novelist and writer Adaobi Tricia Nwaubani recalls how she was banned from speaking her mother tongue My parents forbade my local language, Igbo, from being spoken in our home when I was a child. Unlike the majority of their contemporaries in our hometown of Umuahia in south-east Nigeria, my parents chose to speak only English to their children. They also conversed between themselves in English, even though they had each grown up speaking Igbo with their own parents and siblings. On the rare occasion my father and mother spoke Igbo with each other, it was a clear sign that they were conducting a conversation in which the children were not expected to participate. Guests in our home adjusted to the fact that we were an English-speaking household and conformed, with varying degrees of success.

President Obama can help beat fake news

In the same news conference in which Trump shamelessly invoked Nazi Germany, he described the reporting about the intelligence information as "fake news" -- the phenomenon in which phony news stories, planted for political propaganda, masquerade as real news to influence unsuspecting voters. How convenient of our President-elect, a leader in the dissemination of fake news. Trump had led the way for years in claiming that President Obama wasn't born in the United States, until Trump retracted the baseless claims during the heat of the fall election. As if that weren't enough, our President-elect attacked CNN at Wednesday's news conference, accusing it of reporting fake news. But Trump offered no proof. In fact, he never has proof to substantiate his attacks on CNN, or his other favorite media target, The New York Times. In decrying the phenomenon of fake news, Trump creates fake news to distract the nation's attention from his attacks based on ignorance or hate.

Trump intel memo controversy is nothing like Nazi Germany

Is anyone left in America whom President-elect Donald Trump has not offended? During the campaign, he made remarks that were offensive to Muslims, Mexicans and women, for starters. Now he has offended Holocaust survivors and their families by trivializing the atrocities of Nazi Germany. Our President-elect should be ashamed. Winning the Electoral College is not a license to lead without humanity.

Nigerian authors to construct Writers’ village

Abuja – The Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA) says plans are on-going to construct “Writers Village’’ at Mpape, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to enhance the organisation. The President of ANA, Mr Abdullahi Denja made this known in interview in Abuja on Friday. The ANA president said the proposed construction of the village was part of projects that had been earmarked by the association in 2017. Denja, who was speaking on the achievements of the association in 2016, described the year as a remarkable one for the organisation. “We achieved our set objectives which ended with an International Conference that celebrated the 35th anniversary of ANA. “This year, we are looking at consolidating last year’s achievements by introducing some new projects. “We are going to commence the effective development of writers’ village in Mpape; this is a project that is dear to the heart of ANA. “More so, we are trying to start a nation-wide campaign on ‘A book, A Child’. “During this campaign, we are going to produce good books on values and nationhood to instil nationalism in our children. “We will ensure that every Nigerian child of school age has a copy; that is what we are trying to midwife in the first quarter of this year,” Denja said. The president emphasised that the association was looking forward to holding two literary conferences in 2017. “One will be on ‘Citizen of Emergent Nigerian Literature’; the second will be ‘Indigenous Literature Workshop’ for indigenous writers to hold in Sokoto or Kaduna State. “The association will hold a media preview of its documentary later in January, but before that, we will carry out a media preview,’’ he said. The documentary produced by ‘Box Office Production’, an Abuja based movie Production Company, is expected to showcase activities of ANA from inception to date.
