Restructuring And The Challenge Of Governance Competence

Image
Restructuring And The Challenge Of Governance CompetenceNIGERIA’S public political discourse is currently at a high boiling point. The particular theme of political restructuring and its other associated derivatives as devolution of power, true federalism, fiscal federalism, resource control, etc are not really new but have recently acquired strident passion that no proper interrogation of its meaning and essence is really on offer. Now, a very emotional political rhetoric offered as an all time and final panacea to Nigeria’s numerous woes, its new dynamism and phenomenal profile in the current national discourse, may not be unconnected with the crusading voices lend to it, by key establishment figures like former military president, Ibrahim Babangida and former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, both from the North believed to have traditionally cold-shouldered the idea of restructuring.

We Must Stop Confusing The Argument On The Negotiability Of Nigeria’s Unity – Soyinka

Prof. Wole Soyinka, in this Channels Tv video clip said that Nigerian leaders should stop confusing and mixing up the arguments on the negotiability of Nigeria’s unity, saying that every thing is negotiable. According to him, ‘My response is simple. We must stop confusing and mixing up the argument, we are mixing up the argument. It is very unfortunate for our leaders to say that the question of breaking up or not breaking up should not arisen in the first place. It all sounds hypocritical, dogmatic and dictatorial. The statement is the unity of Nigeria is non negotiable, now that to me, is a falsititude.”

Doha Mall’s $1 Bln-Plus Loan Refinancing Frozen Amid Qatar Boycott -Sources

DUBAI/DOHA – The refinancing of a $1 billion loan by Doha Festival City, a retail and hospitality complex in Qatar, has been indefinitely postponed as a diplomatic crisis deters regional banks from doing new Qatari business, bankers said. Aspire Dome is seen in Doha in this aerial view. Qatar will host the 2022 World Cup. The refinancing, coordinated by Doha-based investment bank QInvest, was marketed earlier this year to both Qatari and regional banks, including institutions in the United Arab Emirates. It was to have been larger in size than the original loan – perhaps around $1.2 billion, bankers said. But Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Egypt and Bahrain cut diplomatic and transport ties with Qatar on June 5, accusing it of supporting terrorism, and the proposed deal has been put on hold, the sources said.

Ambode’s Plans For Arts And Culture-rich Epe And Badagry

Epe, an ancient town located within the Lagos
East Senatorial District is endowed with rich
history and huge economic and tourism
potentials dating back to the colonial era in
Nigeria. Part of its rich history are historic landmarks,
including the first ever post-office in Nigeria,
the second oldest sea port in Nigeria, the
second police station in the country, the first
comprehensive college in Lagos state, among
others. Epe over the years has also maintained its
natural endowment. However, the full
potentials of the coastal community had in the
past decade remained untapped and largely
unexploited. But in the last two years, the once sleepy town
is buzzing and bubbling again. Since Governor
Akinwunmi Ambode assumed office on May
29, 2015, Epe, like many others communities in
the State, has gotten attention from the
development strides of the government. From road rehabilitation and construction to
upgrade of healthcare facilities as well as the

The Danger Of Living Without Christ (II) By Lazarus Muoka

It is a great comfort to Christians, to know that
Christ has overcome the world, that is, all
things in the world, which may hinder the
believer’s comfort. The privilege or power to be
an over-comer only abides in those who are
believers indeed. If you are a Christian you are conferred the privilege to be a soldier as long
as you are a believer, and as far as you are a
soldier you are a conqueror. But if a believer abuses the pri-vileges of the
grace of God made available to him by
continuing in iniquity and evil he will not have
the moral justification to continue to parade
himself as overcomer because he is certainly
not one. If he dies in such condition he will head straight to hellfire and even in this world
he will suffer crisis and devoid of any form of
divine protection. If the unbelievers, the wicked, the hypocrites
and unrighteous want to escape the danger
posed by the world, they must come out of
their sins, out of their hypocrisy, un-
righteousness, and make up their mind t…

be removed to pave way for developmental

What Are The Rights To Freedom Of Peaceful Assembly And Of Association?

The rights to freedom of peaceful assembly
and association are among the most important
human rights we possess. Simply put, these rights protect peoples’ ability
to come together and work for the common
good. They are a vehicle for the exercise of
many other civil, cultural, economic, political
and social rights, allowing people to express
their political opinions, engage in artistic pursuits, engage in religious observances,
form and join trade unions, elect leaders to
represent their interests and hold them
accountable. Today, the rights to freedom of peaceful
assembly and of association are enshrined in
international law as fundamental freedoms. But
their philosophical origins are not cultural, or
specific to a particular place and time. Rather,
these rights are born from our common human heritage, rooted in the simple fact that every
civilization is built upon cooperation and
collaboration, from many and not one. It is
human nature – and human necessity – that
people come togethe…
