Uber Says Slain Driver Wasn’t Using App During Incident

…promises to assist in prosecution of suspects
By Prince Osuagwu Ride hailing app, Uber has said that although slain
cab driver, Ehobosa Alex, was a registered Uber
driver, he was however not using the app at the
time his killers boarded his ride. According to Uber, “we are shocked and deeply
saddened to learn of this tragic news. We are busy
reaching out to offer our support to the driver’s
family. Our thoughts and hearts go out to his
family and we extend our sincerest condolences. “This is a senseless act and the guilty parties must
be prosecuted. We are relieved to hear the
suspects have been arrested. We will support the
authorities in any way possible to assist in their
investigation”. Identifying the driver, the mobile software
company said, “we can confirm that the driver was
registered to use the Uber app, but he was not
using the app during the time of the incident,
therefore we have no reason to believe that this
crime is related to Uber in any way.” The slain driver was declared missing on Sunday
before his body was later found at Iju area of
Lagos. However, the long arm of the law caught up with
the two men, Osaro Egbomrewen and Michael
Eyeoekpe, who allegedly murdered the cab
driver. The suspects who were paraded before newsmen
in Lagos state, Tuesday were said to have posed as
passengers and ordered for the services of the taxi
driver.
When the deceased arrived, they instructed him to
take them to their destination at Ogba, Oke-Ira. During their trip, the suspects and one other who
is currently at large, suddenly ordered the driver
to make a U-turn and take them to Oremeji Street,
Obawole area of Ogba, where he was strangled
with a belt and his KIA RIO salon car marked KTU
594DM vehicle was taken away. The suspects had planned to sell off the car to an
unsuspecting buyer. However the police began to
trail them and tracked the vehicle after a complaint
was made of a missing Uber driver and his car.
